This is one of my favorite quotes! So many times I browse through a magazine (home decor, of coarse) and I'm lusting after the beauty and elegance that those pictures invite and of coarse I want it. But these are just things, they aren't where happiness lies, they don't last, and they aren't real. Once I get my head out of that magazine and I start looking around my house, I tend to come up with new things I want to do or change to make it look like the pictures. This exercise overwhelms me and exhausts me to the point of not knowing anymore what I really want or enjoy.
Whenever I reach this stage, I find myself sitting and taking a step back at what I have now. I look around me at our little, somewhat older home and I see the changes we've made, to make it our own. It doesn't look like the magazine, because it has a touch of 'us' in it. It's a home where our family can come together and be ourselves and welcome others to. Then I start to think about my family and how I got so lucky to be where I am today. I have a husband who loves me and treats me accordingly. I have such wonderful children who try to what's right, and who make each other laugh. We have books filled with pictures and memories of our first years together and how memorable they were. We also have hard days that we try to support each other and lift each other. We have the gospel and the love of or Heavenly Father and Savior. We read from the scriptures and talk about the lessons learned from those stories. Our little life is far from perfect, but it's ours! And with that we don't need anything else.
" For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." ~Luke 12:34
